While we do our best to help each patient avoid the need for dental treatment, there are times that root canal therapy must be provided to save a tooth. This treatment repairs a tooth that has suffered deep decay that invaded the soft inner tissue of the tooth. Alternately, the tooth might have suffered an impact injury. Root canal therapy removes the infected or damaged soft tissue, cleans out the inside of the tooth and then seals it up. The top of the tooth will then be closed up with a tooth-colored composite filling.

We can also offer other endodontic treatments to our patients. “Endodontics” refers to treatment of the soft inner tissue or root of the tooth. For example, after a traumatic injury, a tooth may be painful because of a crack hidden below the gum. We can diagnose the cause of this pain and treat it so the tooth can be preserved.

As with any other dental treatment, our gentleness and kindness with children is what helps our patients remain calm and comfortable. If a child is particularly anxious, we will work with the parents to prescribe the minimal level of sedation to make treatment tolerable.
