This state-of-the-art laser is specifically designed for soft tissue (like gums), hard tissue (like enamel) and bone tissue treatment. It is virtually painless, noiseless and vibrationless which means a much more comfortable treatment for our young patients.
In many cases of poor nursing or breast pain for the mom, “tongue tie” is the source of the problem. Tongue tie occurs when the band of tissue anchoring the tongue to the base of the mouth is too tight, limiting the baby’s tongue movement. When this happens, the baby can’t form the proper shape with the mouth and tongue. The following signs may show up:
- Baby can’t open mouth widely so can’t latch on at the correct angle
- Baby may “gum” the nipple which causes pain for mom
- Baby can’t make a good seal around the nipple, causing milk to dribble from the baby’s mouth
- Baby will stop eating before getting enough food
- Both baby and mom wind up tired and baby is often hungry
Dr. Denisse offers new moms a complimentary evaluation in her Dental Studio 4 Kids as early as a few days after the baby’s birth. She also offers lactation assistance.
If tongue tie is found, a pain-free, needle-free correction using laser surgery is available. It can be performed while the baby is completely awake. Immediately after this laser surgery, the baby can nurse.
