While we work very hard to prevent the need for extractions, there are times that an extraction is the right treatment for our patient.

Why might a child’s tooth need to be extracted?

• A baby tooth may have such long roots that it does not fall out on schedule and prevents a permanent tooth from erupting on time and in the right place.
• A baby tooth may become infected and need removal to prevent infection from spreading.
• A wisdom tooth may not have room to erupt into the right position or it may be embedded in bone.
• The teeth may be crowded and crooked because they are too large for the jaw. For orthodontic treatment to succeed, some teeth may need to be removed.

While most extractions are quite fast, some children may be too anxious to allow this treatment to proceed. Please contact us to learn about our sedation choices as needed.
